Jay Alan Caven

October 13th, 1961 – July 29th 2026

Jay Alan Caven was born October 13, 1961, to Lawrence and Marion Caven of Duluth, Minnesota. He was one of seven children.

Jay met the love of his life, Lori, in 1982, and the two were married in 1989. Together they raised three children. Jay passed away unexpectedly on July 29, 2026, at the age of 64, surrounded by his loved ones.

Jay was a proud union employee of BendTec in Duluth for more than 30 years. He was goofy, generous, and the kind of person who would go out of his way to help anyone who needed it. He loved hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, movies, the Twins and Wild, Red Vines, and spending time at the cabin on Gunflint Lake. But his favorite titles were Dad and Grandpa.

Jay was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Marion “Tippy” Caven; his brother, Randy Caven; and his sister, Jill Caven.
He is survived by his wife, Lori Caven; his children, Max Caven (Kyia), Molly Westman (Zach), and Emily Caven (Henry); his grandchildren, Lawrence “Theo” Theodore Caven and Ida Jean Caven; his sisters, Rebecca, Leslie, his twin sister, Jan, and Beth; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and friends.

A celebration of Jay’s life will be held October 17 at Clyde Iron Works in Duluth from 12:00–3:00 p.m.
